Sustainable Fairfax Board Meeting – All Welcome

The  Board is a group of hard-working, community-minded individuals who have committed their time and energy to making life in Fairfax and beyond healthier, stronger, and more sustainable.  Sustainable Fairfax welcomes new energy and talent.

Board Meetings are on the the 2nd Friday of even months (2-Feb, 4-April and so on) at 9:30-11 AM; and the 2nd Monday of odd months at 6:30-8 PM.

Fairfax on Foot: Fall Equinox Hike – Loma Alta

Fairfax On Foot: Fall Equinox Hike: LOMA ALTA

Saturday, September 21 – 4:00~6:00pm
Distance: 4.3 Miles
Difficulty: Fairly strenuous, steep, some uneven, gravelly terrain
MEET: At Glen Drive Fire Road at end of Glen Drive.

Fairfax on Foot is back! Explore the beauty of Loma Alta Open Space Preserve with a group of enthusiastic hikers interested in learning more about our natural environment. Loma Alta is a hidden secret among locals, tucked away between Fairfax and San Anselmo. Our Marin Municipal Water District representative, Larry Bragman, will be joining us and will talk about watershed issues in the area. Marin County Open Space Ranger Mike Warner will also be attending.

RESERVE YOUR SPOT

Wear good hiking boots. Poles may be helpful. As always, bring water and wear sunscreen, as there is little shade.

We will go to Iron Springs Pub after the hike for food and/or drinks (optional).

Fairfax on Foot- Our Public Right-of-Ways

Join Sustainable Fairfax and Council Member John Reed to for a walk to explore some of our newly renovated public trails in the area of Frustuck Avenue. John Reed has worked with Fairfax Volunteers to catalogue, re-open, and improve these vital paths between our hill streets.

Fairfax on Foot: Oak Knoll Neighborhood Walk

Difficulty: Easy (2.4 miles)

Join Sustainable Fairfax for this (mostly) flat walk through the Oak Knoll neighborhood on Saturday, April 21.  We’ll meet at the Center Blvd entrance of Good Earth Natural Foods at 10am and walk east through this historic neighborhood, meandering close to San Anselmo Creek through picturesque streets, alleys and across bridges. At  Saunders we will loop back via San Anselmo Avenue, with some history stops at Lansdale and Yolanda stations.  

Judy Coy of the San Anselmo Historical Society will be joining us for the walk to provide us with some introductory comments about the history of this area.

Post-walk lunch or snack with group optional. All ages welcome!

This is a free event. Donations welcome.

Fairfax on Foot: Red Hill Walk

Sunday, March 11 
Time: 10:00 am  
Meet: San Anselmo Walgreen’s Parking Lot by Edo Grill
Distance: About 2 miles
Cost: Free ~ Donations welcome
Join us for an exploration of San Anselmo’s new Red Hill Open Space. Learn more about the fascinating history of this strange hill that can be seen from miles around. Enjoy the new trail and newly installed interpretive signs. The views from the top will give you a whole new perspective on the Ross Valley.
Special Guest: Brian Crawford, San Anselmo Open Space Committee. Brian is a long-term member of the San Anselmo Open Space Committee. He has opened up new trails on Red Hill and on Mission Ridge and has a deep knowledge of these areas.
Details: Bring snacks, water, and walking shoes. Walking surface includes stairs, streets, and dirt trails, some of them steep.  Optional lunch afterwards at Pizzalina.
