Resilient Neighborhoods Intro Meeting

May 25, 2016 by Sustainable Fairfax Leave a Comment

Resilient Neighborhoods Intro Meeting

Wednesday, May 25th, 7:30 PM – Fairfax Women’s Club, 46 Park Rd.

Come to this presentation and find out what you can do about climate change. It’s important here in Marin because 60% of the CO2 pollution comes from the residents.

The program offers practical actions to live more lightly on the earth, reduce your bills & water usage, and make your family, neighborhood and community more resilient. In five facilitated meetings over a couple of months, you and your teammates actually reduce your household’s carbon footprints. Even people who have done a lot already find new actions to take. It’s fun, free and rewarding!

To date, 635 Marin residents have reduced over 2.7 million pounds of CO2 emissions and are making their communities safer and stronger!

For more information, visit www.resilientneighborhoods.org.

To RSVP, please email ResilientNeighborhoods@gmail.com.

Time to Lead on Climate

November 9, 2015 by Sustainable Fairfax Leave a Comment

time to lead

Organizing for Action, Sustainable San Rafael and two dozen other Marin environmental and social action groups including Sustainable Fairfax will present “Time to Lead on Climate: CA : US : UN” on the evening of Monday, November 9 at Dominican University’s Angelico Hall at 7:00pm.

Timed just prior to the kick-off of this year’s UN Climate Conference in Paris and next year’s US Presidential and Congressional elections—and energized by California’s growing climate leadership and the Pope’s call for global action—the event poses the increasingly urgent question, How do we fire up the political will to solve Climate Change, and what can each of us do to help?

Speakers include Congressman Jared Huffman; UN Climate Delegate Ken Alex with the Office of Governor Jerry Brown; Josh Fryday, NextGen Climate Action; and Susan Stephenson, Interfaith Power & Light. Bill McKibben, founder of 350.org, will speak by video. Dominican President Mary Marcy will moderate.

Please join us. $10 advance (best seating), $15 at door, $5 students. For tickets and information visit www.leadonclimate.org.

Sustainable Film Series: Chasing Ice

May 17, 2013 by Jennifer Hammond

ChasingIce

Don’t miss our screening of the captivating film,Chasing Ice, winner of the best cinematography at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. This film is part of the Sustainable Fairfax Environmental Film Series shown at the Fairfax Women’s Club, in partnership with the Town of Fairfax.

I saw this film last year, and was moved by the powerful images and videos captured by National Geographic photographer James Balog. His efforts to gather the visual evidence of our changing planet are simply awe-inspiring.

Dr. Peter Joseph of the Climate Reality Project and Citizens Climate Lobby will provide his insight after the film and lead a short discussion.

The doors will open at 6:30pm and the movie starts at 7:00pm. We suggest a donation of $5-$15 to support the important work of Sustainable Fairfax.
