SLOW RIDERS BIKE RIDE & LUNCH

Have you wanted to learn how to get around Marin by bicycle without having to deal with heavy car traffic? Have you been meaning to explore the bike paths we have in Marin, but don’t know where to start? …

Join Sustainable Fairfax for Slow Riders! The next ride will be an easygoing ride to the Marin Country Mart across from the Larkspur Ferry. We will take side streets and bike paths that meander along the beautiful Corte Madera Creek. There will be time to grab a bite to eat at the Saturday Farmer’s Market.

MEETING TIME / LOCATION: We are meeting at the Marin Museum of Bicycling at 1966 Sir Francis Drake Blvd at 10am.

LENGTH: 14 miles roundtrip – mostly flat – one small hill

Children under 10 must ride as a passenger. Bike Helmets are required.

This ride is part of Sustainable Fairfax’s ReduceX2 (car trips per week) initiative.

Marin Sanitary Service: Curbside Cleanup Next Week!

Marin Sanitary Service is providing two new services this year to its ratepayers in Fairfax. The free hazardous waste pick-up has been replaced by a Curbside Cleanup day and two free scheduled Bulky Item Collections.

Curbside Cleanup:  On curbside cleanup days, you can put out up to fourteen extra 32-gallon bags or cans (2 cubic yards) of garbage, recycling, and/or yard/food waste. Bulky items like mattresses, appliances, and furniture will NOT be collected during curbside clean-ups. The next curbside cleanup will be on your regularly scheduled collection day between September 26-30.  If you are a Marin Sanitary Service customer, and do not live in Fairfax, your curbside cleanup may be scheduled for a different week.  See this link for more details. (Note: Residents in the unincorporated areas of Fairfax are not serviced by Marin Sanitary Service and will not receive this service.)

Bulky Item Collections:  Residential customers may receive two free scheduled bulky item collections per year of up to two items each time.  Any item over 60 pounds or 6 feet will be subject to an additional fee to cover equipment and labor. Call Marin Sanitary Service customer service department at 415-456-2601 to get a quote or schedule your collection. A 24-hour notice is required for special pick-up requests. The quote given over the phone may change after the driver assesses the load.

Why it’s critical to make climate change a priority issue in this year’s Presidential and Congressional elections—and what Californians can do to help. Stanford Law Professor Michael Wara will speak on ‘Market-Driven Solutions to Climate Gridlock,’ with Paulson Institute Vice Chair and ‘Risky Business’ Author Kate Gordon describing ‘How to Talk People Through the Climate of Denial.’ California 2nd District Congressman Jared Huffman will emphasize the urgency of climate action in ‘The Earth Votes Last.’ Audience Q&A moderated by NextGen Climate COO and Novato City Councilman Josh Fryday.

Tickets $10. No one turned away for lack of funds. RSVP to assure seating: www.leadonclimate.org.

Fairfax on Foot: Incline Railway Walk

Location:  Meet at the Sustainable Fairfax office, 6 School St., Ste 150, Fairfax (see map below)

Length: 10:00am ~ 1:00pm

Level: Moderately Strenuous ~ 3 miles

We will (roughly) follow the path of the historic Manor Funicular. This is a steep walk with some slippery, uneven, surfaces. Wear hiking boots and bring poles if you have them.

Optional post-walk lunch or snack with group.
