Fairfax on Foot: Discover Red Hill- March 18
Join us for this Fairfax on Foot Walk to explore a local landmark!
The trail starts at Red Hill shopping center and ends at the top of historic Red Hill, a 150 million-year-old submarine volcano that extruded onto the floor of a Jurassic sea years ago. Our knowledgeable guide will talk about efforts to improve and maintain this area. There are interesting rock formations, lovely trees, and spectacular views from the trail.
Lead Guide: Brian Crawford, San Anselmo Open Space Committee
Public Transit: We will take a Marin Transit Bus to San Anselmo for the start of the walk. Learn some helpful tips on riding public transit in Marin! We will be selling Clipper cards in case you don’t have one. We will meet at the Fairfax Parkade bus stop on Sir Francis Drake at 10am. We will catch the #68 bus at 10:10am. You can also meet us at the San Anselmo hub at 10:30am. We will be selling Clipper cards in case you don’t have one!
Level: Strenuous, 1.5 Miles R/T, 350 ft elevation gain. The trail is rough, slick in patches and quite steep. Caution to people who are unsteady or afraid of heights. Hiking poles recommended.
Optional: Post-walk lunch with the group (please bring money for Pizzalina!).
Return to Fairfax by bus or a 1.5-mile walk.
