The Art of Seed Saving & Community Seed Swap

March 19, 2016 by Jennifer Hammond Leave a Comment

Join the Fairfax Library and Sustainable Fairfax for a seed saving program and community seed swap on Saturday, March 19 starting at 1:00pm. Master Gardener Trish Clifford will explain how to become a more self-sufficient gardener. Attendees will learn how to grow out vegetables so they can save seeds for next year’s crop.

The community seed swap goes from 3-4pm. Community members are encouraged to bring pesticide-free, non-hybrid seeds from the garden, partially used or unused seed packets, and envelopes to gather seeds. This is a free event, co-sponsored by Fairfax Friends of the Library and Sustainable Fairfax.

The Fairfax Library also houses a Community Seed Exchange in partnership with Sustainable Fairfax. The program fosters resilience, self-reliance and a culture of sharing. Patrons fill out a membership form and record the seeds they take, then pledge to collect seeds from what they grow and donate some back to the Seed Exchange.
