Sustainable Fairfax Community Council: Remembering Our Ancestors

October 25, 2014 by Jennifer Hammond

With Halloween coming and the Celebrations of the Day of Dead we will take the time to remember ancestors. In particular we will consider what we have learned from our families about sustainable practices as well as what we need to unlearn.

Please join us for this Community Council honoring our traditions. Through sharing our stories in a safe space of deep listening we open to the possibility of creative solutions born from inspired hearts and minds. All are welcome to attend.

Please bring photos of loved ones to put on our Alter table

Our Council methods are based on ancient practices and the Way of Council developed at the Ojai Foundation.

Council Facilitators:
Teya Valentina Chavez (Co-owner/Sol Studios & healing arts teacher)
Rachel McKay (Cultural Liaison/Sustainable Fairfax & trained in the Way of Council)

Please RSVP by sending an email to SustainFX@gmail.com or calling 415-305-2307.

Drop-ins are okay.

($5-$15 suggested donation – no one turned away)

Community Council: Participatory Politics

September 20, 2014 by Jennifer Hammond

Some of the questions we will address in this month’s council:

[unordered_list style=”green-dot”]

  • In these times of great change and political polarization, how can we find common ground and use change to unite rather than divide us?
  • How do we maintain balance within ourselves as the ground shifts below our feet?
  • How do we reclaim our role as citizens?

[/unordered_list]

Community Council: Striving for Zero Waste in a Single-Use Society

August 23, 2014 by Jennifer Hammond

With Sustainable Fairfax’s help, the Town of Fairfax intends on reaching its ZERO WASTE goal of 94% diversion of waste from the landfill by 2020. We can do it, daunting as it sounds.

  • What can we teach each other about good practices, changing habits, and advocacy?
  • How do we stay connected to ourselves so we can be good stewards when we feel overwhelmed, or powerless?
  • In the face of today’s unsustainable practices, how can we support each other to cultivate courage and insight as we learn how to be initiators and leaders?

The methods we will use are based on ancient practices and the Way of Council developed in the last 30 years at the Ojai Foundation.
