RiverBlue spans the globe to infiltrate one of the world’s most pollutive industries, fashion. Through harsh chemical manufacturing processes and the irresponsible disposal of toxic chemical waste, one of our favorite iconic products has destroyed rivers and impacted the lives of people who count on these waterways for their survival. RiverBlue brings awareness to this issue, and demands significant change in the textile industry from the top fashion brands that can make a difference.

Our speaker, Rebecca Burgess, founder of Fibershed, has created a model for a local textile economy, developing a network to support regionally grown and created clothing, and promoting “soil to soil” textile processes. Rebecca is also the author of the best-selling book Harvesting Color, a bioregional look into the natural dye traditions of North America.

  • Speaker:  Executive Producer, Jeff Horowitz, will be answering questions at the end of the Film.  And local groups will share actions you can take to move towards a healthier climate!

Climate change is the biggest challenge humanity has ever faced – and it is also our greatest opportunity. We have the solutions we need, but we are in a race against the clock to implement them in time. Oscar-winning documentary director Charles Ferguson captures the urgency and innovation of this critical moment in his new film, Time to Choose. The film looks at the climate threats and explores the remarkable stories of people changing our world for the better. It looks squarely at this unique moment on earth, with an eye to helping change the course of human history.

Time to Choose features world-renowned entrepreneurs, innovators, and thought leaders, as well as regular people from around the world who talk about winning fights to save their communities from the effects of fossil fuels and industrial agriculture.

Local environmental organizations will be speaking and tabling at this event and will choose the most impactful actions you can take to help the cause.

Film & Panel Discussion: SEED- May 19

Few things on earth are as miraculous and vital as seeds. Join Sustainable Fairfax for a screening of the award winning film, “SEED: The Untold Story,” and a discussion with an engaging panel of experts including Mark Squire, Wendy Johnson and Claire Hope Cummings.

In the last century, 94% of our seed varieties have disappeared. SEED follows passionate seed keepers protecting our 12,000 year-old food legacy. As biotech chemical companies control the majority of our seeds, farmers, scientists, lawyers, and indigenous seed keepers fight to defend the future of our food. These heroes rekindle a lost connection to our most treasured resource and revive a culture connected to seeds.

SEED features Vandana Shiva, Dr. Jane Goodall, Andrew Kimbrell, Winona Laduke and Raj Patel. SEED is Executive Produced by Academy Award Winning Actress Marisa Tomei, Marc Turtletaub (Little Miss Sunshine) and Phil Fairclough (Grizzly Man, Cave of Forgotten Dreams).

Mark Squire, Owner of the Good Earth Natural Foods. He is one of the original proponents and authors of Measure B the Sonoma County initiative that prohibited the outdoor cultivation of GMO’s which passed in 2004.

Wendy Johnson, Organic gardening mentor, teacher and author of Gardening at the Dragon’s Gate. She is a adviser to the Edible School Yard Program and original founder of Green Gulch Farms and the Organic Farm at Indian Valley College.

Claire Hope Cummings, is an environmental lawyer and journalist and award winning author of Uncertain Peril: Genetic Engineering & the Future of Seeds.
