We are so fortunate to have Sustainable Fairfax working on composting, recycling and ensuring our household hazardous waste does not pollute our environment. Their outreach and education programs also include a film series which addresses all aspects of environmental sustainability and climate change challenges. They are our partners, working with the Town and all Fairfaxians to help us achieve our 2020 zero waste goals. Working together, we will truly have a ‘Sustainable Fairfax,’ today and well into the future.

The vision, the programs and the focus that Sustainable Fairfax provides for the town as a whole also boosts and complements the sustainable orientation of the majority in the Fairfax business community. Among other things, the Chamber and our local businesses are pleased to be part of the ‘Streets for People’ event that Sustainable organizes every year.

Sustainable Fairfax always has a creative idea up its sleeve. Like when they had kids trick or treat—but instead of collecting candy, the kids asked for used batteries and then recycled them. That not only educated families but eventually lead to fire stations throughout Marin offering people free and easy battery recycling. Streets for People is another example. What a wonderful idea for a fair that brings together people and businesses having fun as part of a single community. And the mighty town of Fairfax, urged on by Sustainable Fairfax, is just behind the city of San Rafael in the amount of carbon emissions its residents have reduced through the Resilient Neighborhoods Program.

The Sustainable Fairfax sorting game was the best part of Take Back Day. It stimulated a lot of conversation and helped bring up important questions. And now I can share this information with my housemates!
